Brittany - Pont-Aven, Ratatouille, Galettes

Port-Aven is a town where the painter Paul Gauguin spent some time (before he moved to Tahiti).  The town is amazingly beautiful and very photogenic.  Winding walkways take visitors over the river and back again, and a walk through the antique market on the walls of the harbor was a true treat.

Marie treated the children to chocolates from a local sweet shop before we all headed to the beach for some relaxation.  The coast of Brittany is much like the PNW - rugged but with a propensity to be a bit blustery.  I didn't take any pictures at the beach this day for fear of my camera getting sandblasted!

We had Marie's ratatouille for lunch today and I'm pretty sure there's some sort of Breton magic in there.  It was delicious!  We were also introduced to Pont-Aven galettes (cookies) today, which may just be the best cookies on earth.

Winner,2015 "Cutest bathroom in Brittany."  Seriously, that's a BATHROOM.

It's a fixer-upper, but check out the bull's head.

These guys let me take a picture of their display of old cameras at the antique market.  I let them play with my camera in exchange.

Suddenly, we spot a 1966 Ford Mustang with a fully rebuilt 289 V8.

Marie and Erin stroll through the garden.

This evening we met Helene, who is Marie's cousin and Horace's godmother (I'm his godfather) and her two charming daughters Maurane and Laurine.  They are a lovely family and very gracious; again confirming that Erwan and Marie have excellent taste in friends ;-)

Yum.
