Big big big day.
Erwan
took us this morning to the market in Moelan sur Mer, assuring us that it was
a "small" market. Either
something got lost in translation or he was kidding as the market was huge,
taking up several streets of the town (really, most of the downtown). There was something for everyone, from
beads and crafts for the kids to clothing and shoes to all kinds of different
foods.
Erwan purchased what I suspect was several kilos worth of Langostinos,
which are tasty little shellfish very like a small lobster or large
crayfish. They were delicious!

I'm still trying to figure out how to say "NOM" in French. |

Philemon the cat disguising himself as a potted plant. |

Philemon in repose, in pot. A very sweet little cat. |
After our sumptuous feast at home we headed to the Citadel in Port
Louis. The Citadel was constructed in
the bay during the reign of Louis XIV (the Sun King) and was occupied by the
Nazis during WWII.
In addition to being a very cool place to poke around (who doesn't love
exploring old forts?), there is an excellent museum there of "Tresors
d'Ocean" - archaeological artifacts recovered from shipwrecks.

This walkway runs along the old wall about a kilometer. It's roughly 3 feet wide in most places and about 15-18 feet up.
There's no rail. |
We dined at an exquisite creperie in Port Louis and wound our way through
the town's night market. It was a
short drive to the coast (around the bay) to find ourselves a prime spot to
watch the Bastille Day fireworkds (feur d'artifice) in this charming little
town.
